Classical landfills release harmful chemicals into the environment through landfill gas, causing pollution. This gas contains methane and carbon dioxide, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions. However, methane in landfill gas can also be a valuable energy resource. By using a method to calculate methane emissions from landfills, it was found that China has a significant amount of methane resources in landfill gas. By analyzing current practices in China, it was determined that there are ways to utilize landfill gas to reduce emissions and benefit economically, environmentally, and in terms of energy resources. Recommendations were made to improve the recovery and utilization of landfill gas.
