Chinese ancient clans shift from aristocracy to plebeian, weakening ties with regime.
The Chinese clan institution has changed over time, going through different periods like patriarchal, aristocracy, and plebeian. The relationship between clans and the government has become weaker, and the structure within clans has become less strict. Clans are now more common and less exclusive. Interestingly, clan clustering used to be more common in the north of China, but now it's becoming more popular in the south.
