New rice marker promises tastier grains with lower amylose content!
A new molecular marker has been developed to identify rice varieties with different amylose levels. By looking at a specific DNA sequence in 63 rice cultivars, researchers found that those with a certain genetic marker had higher amylose content in their seeds, while those without it had lower amylose content. This marker can help breeders select rice plants with desired amylose levels for better eating quality. The study also showed that this genetic marker is linked to amylose content in rice seeds and can be used to develop rice varieties with intermediate amylose levels.
