Straw mulching boosts potato yield by 14.3% while reducing plastic pollution.
The study compared different ways of covering the soil when growing potatoes to see how it affects the soil and potato yield. Using straw as mulch can make the soil warmer in cold weather and cooler in hot weather, improving soil moisture and density. Potatoes grown with corn straw mulch had a 14.3% higher yield than those with wheat straw mulch and 9.1% higher than those without mulch. This shows that using straw mulch can improve soil conditions and increase potato yield, while also helping to reduce plastic pollution.
