Bacteria in Seawater Speed Up Corrosion of Metal Anodes.
The study looked at how microorganisms affect the corrosion of a specific type of sacrificial anode in seawater. They used different techniques to analyze the samples. The results showed that in natural seawater, a protective biofilm formed by bacteria slowed down the corrosion process. In contrast, in sterile seawater, the anode corroded more quickly and unevenly. The biofilm detached from the sample after about two weeks due to nutrient depletion.
