The Songnan Gas Field in the Songliao Basin was formed from volcanic activity in the Cretaceous period. The researchers studied the rock types and reservoir spaces in the area to better understand the gas reservoir. By analyzing seismic data and well logging information, they identified effective reservoir spaces within the volcanic rock. This led to the successful drilling of four horizontal wells, resulting in high gas production.
