China's energy intensity declines, but rebound looms, highlighting need for continued conservation efforts.
This study looked into how energy consumption in different sectors of China changed from 2000 to 2007. Researchers examined factors influencing this change using a method called factor decomposition. They found that certain factors, like changes in how much energy was directly used, played a big role in decreasing energy consumption in industries like coal and petroleum. Other factors, such as the types of products made or the demand for them, affected energy use in sectors like gas and power. However, improvements in technology didn't always lead to less energy use in sectors like agriculture or transportation. Overall, while China has made efforts to save energy, there are signs that more steps might be needed to reduce energy consumption in the future.
