Forest certification and forest policies work together to promote sustainable forest management and governance. Forest certification is a new tool that helps strengthen forest policies by encouraging discussions among stakeholders, developing laws and regulations, increasing public awareness of sustainable forest management, and facilitating international policy dialogue. The relationship between forest certification and forest policy, as well as the impact of certification on governance, have been analyzed. The potential role of forest certification in improving China's forest governance is also discussed.
