The merchants of Jiangcun Village in Shexian County were important during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. They became prominent in trade during the Ming Dynasty, despite setbacks from wars. In the early Qing Dynasty, favorable policies helped them grow rapidly, reaching their peak during the reign of Qianlong. Studying the rise of Jiangcun merchants can help us understand Huizhou merchants and society in Ming and Qing Dynasties.
