New research reveals optimal times for ditch wetland restoration efforts!
The study looked at how a plant called Hydrocotyle vulgaris grows in a ditch. They used a special device to measure how the plant takes in sunlight and carbon dioxide to make food. The plant's food-making process had two peaks during the day, with the highest rates at 11:00 and 15:00. The researchers found that the plant's stomata (tiny openings on leaves) and how much water it releases are important for its food-making. Sunlight and stomata are the main things that affect how well the plant grows.
