High Nitrogen Fertilizer Boosts Maize Yield and Water Efficiency Dramatically
The study looked at how different amounts of nitrogen fertilizer affect the growth and water use efficiency of maize in sandy-loam alluvial soil. They found that applying 450kg/ha of nitrogen fertilizer helped increase soil water content, promoted deeper root growth in maize, and improved corn growth and yield. Maize yield increased with nitrogen application, but the rate of increase slowed down after 450kg/ha. The treatment with 450kg/ha of nitrogen had the highest water use efficiency and yielded 70.7% more than the control group. Overall, applying 450kg/ha of nitrogen fertilizer was the most effective option for improving maize growth and water use efficiency.
