The researchers studied three types of Stipa grass in Inner Mongolia to understand their genetic relationships. They used a technique called RAPD analysis to look at the DNA of 14 populations of these grasses. They found that there were genetic similarities between the species, and populations of the same species grouped together. They also discovered specific genetic markers unique to each species.
