Algal bloom risk in Longjiang River due to severe nitrogen pollution
The study looked at nitrogen and phosphorus levels in Longjiang River to assess water quality and risk of algal blooms. Nitrogen pollution was found to be severe, with higher concentrations in the wet season. Phosphorus levels were higher in the dry season. Nitrate was the main form of nitrogen present. Phosphorus was identified as the limiting nutrient for phytoplankton growth. Overall, the river was classified as mesotrophic, indicating moderate nutrient levels. The risk of algal blooms was found to be higher in the dry season.
