New soil study reveals key to nutrient supply and cycling
Researchers studied the amount and turnover of active organic carbon in soils from Zhejiang Province. They found that the size of this carbon pool varied among soils and was positively related to various soil nutrients. However, the turnover rate of this carbon pool was not correlated with the same nutrients. The percentage of water-soluble organic carbon in soil was a good indicator of how quickly the active organic carbon pool is replenished.
