Saline water irrigation causing rapid soil salinization in Minqin oasis.
The study looked at how using salty water for irrigation affects soil salt levels in an area with deep groundwater. They found that irrigating with salty water caused soil salt levels to rise quickly, especially when the water was very salty. Using film mulching helped reduce salt in the soil, but uncovered soil still had salt buildup due to evaporation. Salty water irrigation also increased soil pH and Exchangeable Sodium Percentage, especially with very salty water.
