Straw mulch boosts soil moisture and wheat yield in arid regions.
The study looked at how different ways of covering soil affect water content and crop yield in a winter wheat field. They tried four methods: using straw mulch with different amounts, plastic film mulching, and no mulching. Results showed that soil moisture was higher with cover treatments. More straw mulch led to better water retention in the soil. Straw mulch increased crop production, with the 300kg/ha treatment showing higher yield and water use efficiency. Plastic film mulching didn't have a significant impact on yield.
