Salinity stress stunts rice growth, threatening food security worldwide.
A study compared the germination of weedy and cultivated rice seeds under salty conditions. As salt levels increased, both types of rice showed lower germination rates, shorter seedling and root lengths, and less weight. The sugar content in the seeds decreased with more salt, with Teyouhang 1 having the highest sugar content. The level of malondialdehyde, a marker of stress, increased with salt levels, with Huahang 31 having the highest levels.
