Decrease in flow and sediment diversion threatens Jingjiang River ecosystem.
The study looked at how the flow and sediment diversion in three outlets along the Jingjiang River have changed over the past 50 years. Factors like sediment buildup, river regulation, and changes in Dongting Lake affected the flow and sediment diversion. Since the 1950s, the amount of diverted flow and sediment has decreased significantly. After the Three Gorges Reservoir was built, the diversion ratios continued to decrease. Overall, there was no major change in flow and sediment diversion from 1981 to 2002, but the number of days with no flow at one of the outlets increased.
