Urban sewage main culprit in nitrogen and phosphorus pollution of Ganjiang River.
The researchers studied nitrogen and phosphorus pollution in Ganjiang River. They found that levels of these nutrients were higher in the dry season, especially downstream of Ganzhou and Nanchang cities. Urban sewage was the main source of ammoniacal nitrogen, while both urban sewage and agricultural runoff contributed to nitrate nitrogen pollution. Total phosphorus levels were highest near the cities, primarily due to urban sewage. The study showed that pollution in the river comes from both urban and agricultural sources, with different impacts depending on the season.
