High nitrogen levels in cotton fields boost plant growth and yield.
The researchers studied how different amounts of nitrogen fertilizer affected cotton plants. They found that high nitrogen levels increased plant height and leaf area, while inhibiting carbohydrate synthesis but increasing protein content in the leaves. Middle nitrogen levels had the highest photosynthesis rate, while low nitrogen levels accelerated leaf aging. Overall, cotton plants grown with middle nitrogen levels had the highest lint yield, followed by high nitrogen and then low nitrogen.
