China's energy consumption driven by GDP growth, offset by efficiency improvements, investment, and urban consumption.
The goal of the study was to figure out why China is using more energy by looking at things like population growth, how efficient energy use is, the types of things being produced, and how people in China are living. By analyzing all this information, they found that between 1992 and 2007, China's energy use went up mainly because each person was making more money. This increase in money led to a 24.91% rise in energy use. Even though energy use per activity got better by 128.73%, it couldn't fully balance out the effects of people becoming wealthier. In those 15 years, the things that used the most energy in China were investments, exports, and what people in cities were buying. These activities were responsible for about 42.42% and 39.43% of all the energy China used, respectively.
