Vertical Wetlands Cleanse Water Faster, Boosting Efficiencies and Reducing Pollution
The researchers studied how pollutants change in vertical flow constructed wetlands treating sewage at different rates. They set up sampling locations at different depths and found that CODCr concentration decreased as water flowed through the wetlands. Most CODCr was removed at shallow depths. The concentration of NH4+-N, TN, and NO3--N varied between wetlands with different structures and flow rates, affecting nitrification and denitrification.
