Reducing Nitrogen Fertilizer Boosts Rice Yield and Quality Significantly
A study looked at how different amounts of nitrogen fertilizer and planting densities affect the yield and quality of a rice variety called Yunjing 30. They found that increasing nitrogen fertilizer led to more plant growth and grain production, but lower seed quality. Planting the rice closer together also increased grain production. The best results were seen with 150 kg of nitrogen per hectare and 600,000 plants per hectare, which gave the highest yield of 12,198.2 kg per hectare. Lowering nitrogen and increasing planting density can improve rice quality. The protein content of the rice increased with more nitrogen and closer planting.
