High Salt Levels Stunt Plant Growth and Damage Seedlings, Study Finds
The study looked at how salt stress affects the growth of Arabidopsis thaliana seeds and seedlings. They used different concentrations of salt to see how it impacted germination and growth. The higher the salt concentration, the lower the germination rate and seedling weight. Roots were longer at low salt levels but shortened with higher salt. Salt stress increased proline and MDA levels in the plants. Overall, salt stress hinders seed germination and damages seedlings by causing lipid peroxidation.
