Maize yields plummet as red soil drought threshold revealed.
The study looked at how maize plants respond to drought in red soil. They planted maize in different soil drying conditions and found that the plants didn't show significant changes until the soil had been dry for 21 to 29 days. After 25 days of drought, the grain yield decreased by 5%. They also found a way to measure the level of soil drought, called index D, which can help predict crop yield decreases.
