Undergraduates in Western China Lack Vocabulary Skills, Need Improved Teaching.
The study looked at how 481 college students in western China learn foreign language vocabulary. They found that students believe vocabulary should be learned by using it, and common strategies include using a dictionary, guessing meanings, and taking notes. Students generally have a small vocabulary size. Different grades and majors use strategies differently. Four strategies are linked to vocabulary size. This research can help improve how foreign language vocabulary is taught and learned.
