Fractal Rock Study Revolutionizes Gold Mine Design and Safety.
The study looked at how fractured rock masses are structured using fractal theory. They found that the block composition and porosity of fractured rock masses can be described using fractal numbers. When the statistics are accurate, the block and porosity fractal numbers are almost the same. This means that the statistical and theoretical fractal dimensions are similar. The researchers applied this method to a gold mine and found that the theoretical fractal dimension was 2.4 and the porosity was 22.6%. This information helped in designing grouting reinforcement projects by determining the scope, strength of materials, and amount of grouting needed. The results were confirmed through practical application.
