The study used GIS and math to analyze land use changes in Huairen County from 1989 to 2009. Cultivated land, forest land, and grass land were the main types of land in the county. Forest land, traffic land, and residential area increased, while cultivated land decreased. Different areas in the county had different changes in land use. Population, economy, and policies were important factors in these changes.
