Soil conservation measures in Yellow River area prevent catastrophic flooding.
The study looked at ways to store water and prevent sediment buildup in the Yellow River area. By using soil and water conservation methods, they found that 1 billion cubic meters of water and 300 million tons of sediment are stored each year. Most of the sediment is held back by reservoirs and dams on smaller rivers. However, heavy rain could cause problems with sediment buildup and water levels in the future. To address this, the researchers suggest focusing on controlling erosion in gullies and building more key reservoirs and dams.
