Silicon boosts rice chlorophyll levels under toxic cadmium stress.
Silicon helps increase chlorophyll levels in rice plants exposed to cadmium stress. The study looked at how different amounts of silicon affected chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and total chlorophyll in rice seedlings. Results showed that adding 30-130 mg/L of silicon increased chlorophyll levels in the 4th and 5th leaves from the top. The highest increase was seen at 130 mg/L of silicon. However, adding more than 130 mg/L of silicon decreased chlorophyll levels. The 3rd leaf showed the highest chlorophyll levels at 180 mg/L of silicon. The effect of silicon on chlorophyll in the lower leaves was less significant compared to the top leaves.
