New study reveals prime locations for oil reservoirs in Yangtze block.
The Permian-Middle Triassic rocks in the northwestern margin of the Yangtze block are mainly made up of carbonate rocks. By studying these rocks using seismic data, outcrop observations, and drill core analysis, researchers have identified different types of depositional sequence surfaces and divided the strata into sequences and system tracts. They found that platform edge reef and beach facies are the best reservoir facies belts, mainly located in specific sequences.
