Land desertification in Inner Mongolia reaches critical levels, threatening ecosystems and livelihoods.
A study in Inner Mongolia found that almost 29% of the land in Zhalot Banner is desertified, with sandy desertification being the most common type. The severity of desertification is higher in the farming-pasturing areas compared to pure farming or pure pasturing zones. The main causes are loose soil, arid climate, and human activities like excessive farming and pasturing. To combat land degradation, the researchers suggest better government control, managing population growth, and improving land use practices.
