New Cotton Hybrids Boost Yield and Quality Despite Leaf Curling Disease.
Cotton leaf curling disease is a big problem for cotton farmers, especially in places like Pakistan. In this study, scientists wanted to find out which cotton plants do well even when the disease is around. They crossed different types of cotton plants to see which combinations worked best. They found that some plants were better at producing cotton with good quality and quantity even with the disease. One plant, MNH-886, was good at making a lot of cotton in each boll, while another, MNH-888, was good at making big seeds. They also found that some combinations of plants were even better than their parents at producing cotton. This means that by choosing the right plants to cross, farmers can grow cotton that is both high in quality and quantity, even when the disease is present.
