Clustered Forest Fires in Korea Linked to Human Activities and Population Density.
Forest fires in Korea are mostly caused by human activities and tend to occur in clusters. By analyzing the spatial distribution of forest fires, researchers found that there are two main types of clustering patterns: one related to human activities near forests, and another localized pattern within a short distance. The localized clustering is often linked to specific causes like smoker fires or arson, and tends to happen near densely populated areas like Seoul. Beyond a distance of 30 km, forest fires become more randomly distributed.
