New method allows cheaper and easier storage of tumor cells.
Cells from different tumor types can be stored in a regular freezer at -80 degrees C without losing viability. Storing cells in a mixture of DMSO and BCS at -80 degrees C is as effective as storing them in liquid nitrogen at -196 degrees C. This method is cheaper and more convenient than using liquid nitrogen. Further research is needed to determine how long cells can be stored at -80 degrees C and to find the best storage medium composition.
