Fertilizer Innovation Boosts Rice-Wheat Yields and Soil Health
The researchers studied how using a mix of commercial nitrogen fertilizers, farmyard manure, and multi-strain microorganisms can help grow rice and wheat sustainably. They found that adding farmyard manure and the microorganism mix increased rice yield by 12% and 5% respectively. The microorganisms also boosted rice yield even with lower levels of nitrogen fertilizer. Farmyard manure improved soil health and increased nutrient uptake in both rice and wheat crops. Overall, combining organic and commercial fertilizers with microorganisms can help improve crop yield and soil quality in a rice-wheat farming system.
