Reduced tillage boosts wheat and chickpea yields in cold, rainfed conditions.
Different ways of preparing the soil before planting crops were tested in Iran to see how they affect wheat and chickpea yields. They found that using less intensive tillage methods led to higher wheat yields compared to traditional methods. However, chickpea yields were lower with less tillage. The soil had more moisture with reduced tillage, which helped the crops grow better. Overall, using reduced tillage was the best way to get higher yields for both wheat and chickpea while also conserving soil and water in areas with limited rainfall.
