The JAK-STAT signaling pathways are important for cell growth and differentiation. Recent research has shown that these pathways are activated by various factors and play crucial roles in normal and cancerous cells. Studies using gene-targeting mice lacking specific JAK and STAT molecules have revealed new insights. Particularly, the interactions between STAT3 and Ras/MAP kinase pathways have been found to influence cell growth and differentiation.
