Belief debunked: No correlation found between rainfall and lunar phase.
The study aimed to investigate if rainfall in the Kandy region of Sri Lanka is influenced by the phase of the moon, specifically on "Poya day" (full moon). Data from 1964 to 2001 was analyzed, comparing rainfall on moon phase days with control days. Results showed no significant correlation between rainfall and moon phases, indicating that rainfall is not influenced by the phase of the moon. The belief that rainfall always occurs around "Poya day" may have come from people only remembering rainy "Poya days" during wet periods, leading to a myth.
