Government policies drive shift of cultivated land to more accessible areas.
The study looked at how farmland in Yunnan moved up or down slopes from 1986 to 2008. They used satellite data and maps to see where the changes happened. They found that steep and gentle slopes turned into mid-slope areas over time. The main reason for this shift was government policies. Other factors like the land's steepness, population, and number of farmers also played a role, but not as much as government decisions.
