The article discusses the problems of sexually transmitted diseases in Latin America and the Caribbean compared to other regions. It suggests ways to improve STD services, such as using social security institutions better, including STD services in primary health care, and starting pilot projects in smaller Caribbean territories. More developed countries in the region are also becoming more interested in STDs. For example, an epidemiologist was recruited in Jamaica to help develop a national STD program, which could lead to similar efforts in other places.
