A study was conducted to see how adding extra water to different soil layers affects the growth of winter wheat. They found that giving more water at certain stages helped the wheat grow better. The best results came from adding water to the top 40 cm of soil. This method led to higher grain yield and better use of water. So, for growing winter wheat, it's best to water the top 40 cm of soil at specific stages for optimal results.
