The study looked at how heavy rain in a city can make sewage overflow into streams, making the water dirty. They found that certain bacteria levels in the overflow water were high, especially after it rained. The bacteria were also linked to dirt in the water. By letting the dirt settle for just ten minutes, almost half of the bacteria could be removed.
