Genetic Mutations Linked to Male Infertility, Offering Hope for Affected Couples
In infertile men with sperm production issues like azoospermia or low sperm count, mutations in the CFTR gene were analyzed. The study aimed to see how often these mutations appeared in such cases. Looking at 93 men with fertility problems, researchers found F508del and IVS8-T mutations in 5.4% of them. Interestingly, no difference was seen in mutation rates between men with different sperm issues. This suggests that the frequency of CFTR gene mutations in men with these fertility problems is similar to that in the general population. These findings help shed light on the role of CFTR gene mutations in male infertility.
