New Model Predicts Lake Water Quality Improvement with Innovative Pollution Control
The researchers studied Lake Youngrang in Sokcho City, which has poor water quality due to pollution from stormwater runoff. They used a model to predict how pollution from rainfall runoff affects the lake. By analyzing data from the past 4 years, they estimated pollution loads from the Jangcheon watershed and a storm sewer. They then tested different pollution control methods like wet ponds and infiltration trenches to improve water quality. The model was calibrated using water quality data from 2005 and 2006. The study found that implementing these control measures could help improve the lake's water quality.
