Spatial databases revolutionize urban planning, navigation, and geographic information systems.
The researchers aimed to develop a new system to efficiently process queries that involve both historical and spatial data by introducing a new query language called STQL, based on SQL. This new language helps overcome limitations in traditional query methods for historical operations on spatial objects. They implemented and tested a spatiotemporal query processing system that operates on main memory and found that it can effectively handle queries written in STQL, improving query performance significantly.
