Drought-resistant plants discovered in dry regions, offering hope for agriculture.
The study compared how seven different plants in a dry region adapt to drought. Some plants use high leaf water potential to delay dehydration, while others decrease it to endure drought. Panicum virgatum has high photosynthesis and water use efficiency, while Medicago sativa has high photosynthesis but low efficiency. Lespedeza dahurica has low photosynthesis and efficiency. Bothriochloa ischaemum and Astragalus adsurgens have different strategies to cope with drought.
