Study reveals impact of nitrogen losses on soil health and water quality.
A study looked at how nitrogen levels and rainfall intensity affect nitrogen losses in soil. They used two types of soil and different nitrogen levels and rainfall intensities in a column experiment. The results showed that higher nitrogen levels increased NH4-N and NO3-N concentrations in leachate. NH4-N was higher in sandy clay loam soil, while NO3-N was higher in clay loam soil. NO3-N concentration was higher in clay loam soil with medium rainfall intensity. NH4-N and NO3-N were more concentrated in clay loam soil than sandy clay loam soil. NH4-N increased with soil depth, while NO3-N was highest at 14-21 cm depth in clay loam soil with medium rainfall intensity.
