Revolutionary bioreactor-landfill combo turns waste into methane goldmine.
A system combining a bioreactor with a landfill site was used to treat leachate. The process helped break down organic pollutants in two phases: hydrolytic fermentation and acid production in the landfill, and methane production in the bioreactor. The system achieved a 40%-50% acidification rate and improved the treatment of leachate, as well as the collection and use of methane gas. It also sped up the decomposition of solid waste and stabilization of the landfill site.
