Forest certification in Sweden does not improve environmental outcomes like preserving important areas during logging, leaving trees and high stumps, and setting aside conservation areas. Both the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) schemes show no significant differences in their impact. To make forest certification effective, stricter standards and better monitoring and enforcement are needed.
